Who we are

Our not-for-profit focus, size, and experience, as well as our range of products and services, means Southern Cross plays a unique and important role in the New Zealand’s health and wellness sector.

Southern Cross opened for business in 1961, introducing health insurance to New Zealanders and laying the foundations for one of New Zealand’s most enduring, best known, and trusted brands. Southern Cross was established because its founders believed New Zealanders should have on-going access to private healthcare options.

Over the years, we’ve expanded our community of care and now help more New Zealanders than ever to look after their health and wellbeing and that of their families and pets.

Today, Southern Cross group represents a diverse range of health and insurance brands.

Better together

Strategic Leadership is provided by the Chief Executive team.

As a group of legally independent health and insurance-related businesses that share a common brand, our focus is on the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

Southern Cross Healthcare reinvests in hospital facilities and new technology. Southern Cross Health Society uses it to help stabilise health insurance premiums and add extra benefits for our Society members, while Southern Cross Health Trust supports New Zealanders in need.

Six decades after we started, we remain committed to providing New Zealand households with the protection and care they need to live their lives with confidence.

Our community impact section highlights all the good we do to contribute to the communities we are a part of.
